Friday Fashion Face-off: A Lotta Lotto Prints**

As promised, we’ll devote this week’s face-off to the latest prints from Lotto. I want to say right off the bat that I have nothing against prints. In fact, I recently told my daughter that at this point in my life, I prefer a top with a print because it deflects attention away from my aging face. Without missing a beat, she pointed at her chest and acted out a confrontation with some imaginary man: “Hey, buddy! My eyes are down here!”

She cracks me up.

So I’m all about prints these days, but there has to be balance. There has to be proportion. Most of all, there has to be an attractive print. Sorry, Lotto, but yours don’t cut the mustard. Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: A Lotta Lotto Prints**”

Friday Fashion Face-off: A Plea for Wozniacki

Something’s been bothering me for a long time, and I need to get it off my chest. It’s Caroline Wozniacki’s clothes–specifically, her U.S. Open outfits.

The beautiful Danish player wears Adidas’s Stella McCartney line. Making this young woman look good ought to be a slam-dunk, but from the start, the U.S. Open designs have been nothing short of atrocious.

Let’s look back, shall we? Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: A Plea for Wozniacki”

Friday Fashion Face-off: Wimbledon Best-Dressed Man Award

For the first time, I’ve been dreading writing the Friday Fashion Face-off. How am I supposed to find best-dressed man nominees in a sea of white short-sleeve shirts and shorts? What a snooze-fest. But I guess this is why I make the big bucks.

I considered just nominating the four semi-finalists, but that would leave us with Rafa Nadal and three of the geekiest-looking guys on tour–John Isner, Kevin Anderson, and Novak Djokovic. (I’m a vegetarian, but Djokovic really needs to start eating some steak. Seriously anemic-looking.) Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: Wimbledon Best-Dressed Man Award”

Friday Fashion Face-off: Wimbledon Best-Dressed Woman Award

What the heck is going on at Wimbledon? We’re only halfway through the third round, and we’ve already lost eight of the top ten women. They’re dropping like flies over there, so maybe we better get to the best-dressed award before any more fall by the wayside. Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: Wimbledon Best-Dressed Woman Award”

Friday Fashion Face-off: The Greatest Match Ever Played

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the epic Nadal-Federer Wimbledon final, generally acknowledged to be the greatest match in the history of tennis. I haven’t seen enough matches to weigh in on that claim, but it was certainly a beaut. (For those interested in revisiting the match, the Tennis Channel will be airing a retrospective titled Strokes of Genius this Sunday, July 1 at 8 p.m. EST.)

As always with these two, it’s the clash of styles that made this battle so wildly entertaining. You have the Swiss gentleman, all smooth elegance and balletic grace, versus the Spanish upstart, all popping biceps and ripping power. With such a stark choice, it’s easy to pick a favorite, although the true tennis fan surely has to admire both men. Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: The Greatest Match Ever Played”

Friday Fashion Face-off: Flower Power

We’re going snark-free for this week’s Fashion Face-off! No–wait! Don’t leave! We can still have fun. And we’ll be better people for it. I promise.

As much as I love a good snark, I saw two absolutely fantastic tennis outfits this week, both with floral skirts. They just knocked all the meanness out of me. Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: Flower Power”

The Friday Fashion Face-off Best-Dressed Woman Award

The men’s and women’s tours may have migrated to grass, but here at LittleYellowBall, we’re still knee-deep in the clay. Today we’re voting on the ladies of the French Open. Continue reading “The Friday Fashion Face-off Best-Dressed Woman Award”

The Friday Fashion Face-off Best-Dressed Man Award

This year’s French Open is winding down–as I write this, Nadal and del Potro are battling it out for a spot in the final. (Well, the first set was a battle. Now it’s just a beatdown.)

It’s time to take stock of the year’s French Open fashion. We’ll vote on the best-dressed man and leave the women for next Friday. Continue reading “The Friday Fashion Face-off Best-Dressed Man Award”

Friday Fashion Face-off: The Comic Book Edition

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard that Serena’s strutting her stuff in a black catsuit at the French Open. (And if you have been living under a rock, come back out. It’s dark and wormy under there.)

I wasn’t going to touch the catsuit in the face-off. I figured she’d had plenty of press on it already. But when the topic comes up on the tennis court, I’m immediately asked if I’m going to include it in the blog. The consensus seems to be that I have to. So, for you rock dwellers out there, here’s the catsuit… Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: The Comic Book Edition”
