Friday Fashion Face-off: A Combined Best Dressed

Are you going through Fashion Face-off withdrawal? Me, too. I initially planned to do them every Friday, but tennis fashion just doesn’t change often enough for me to maintain that pace.

However, I did see some new duds during the tournaments at Indian Wells and Miami. Let’s do a combined Best Dressed for the two tournaments. Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: A Combined Best Dressed”

Friday Fashion Face-Off: Australian Open Worst-Dressed Award

The trophies have been awarded and the giant checks cashed, but we’re not done with the Australian Open yet. Today we recognize the worst of the worst in an overall fashion-challenged Slam. Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-Off: Australian Open Worst-Dressed Award”

Friday Fashion Face-off: Australian Open’s Best-Dressed Woman

We’re almost at the end of the Australian Open, which can only mean one thing: It’s time for another “Best Dressed” poll! So let’s put our feet up and ponder these fashion nominees: Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: Australian Open’s Best-Dressed Woman”

Friday Fashion Face-off: Australian Open’s Best Dressed Man

Can I rant for a minute? (Of course I can. It’s my blog.) I have a bill due on the 22nd. That’s Tuesday. Today is Friday, so four days away.

If I send my payment through my bank’s bill pay service, it won’t arrive until Wednesday. Five days for something that’s fully automated. If I sent it via snail mail, the post office would deliver my original handwritten check to its destination on Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Human beings can carry my piece of paper from Massachusetts to Delaware–for a mere 49 cents–faster than computers can electronically move the money.

Unless, of course, I want to pay extra. Then my bank can just about manage to keep up with the post office.

Meanwhile, in completely unrelated news this week, Bank of America posted record earnings for 4Q 2018. It’s enough to make me very cranky.

Let’s cheer ourselves up with some men in shorts. Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: Australian Open’s Best Dressed Man”

Friday Fashion Face-off: Purple Power

Did you see a lot of people wearing purple this year? Purple was 2018’s Color of the Year, which is some made-up designation by the pretentiously named Pantone Color Institute. (Correction: I just checked Pantone’s website. Pantone called the Color of the Year “ultra violet.” That’s purple to us less pretentious folk.) Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: Purple Power”

Friday Fashion Face-off: The Halloween Edition

Scary movies, candy, and the color orange make Halloween just about the perfect holiday. (Christmas still rules, thanks to the lights and the Chipmunks’ song, but Halloween runs a very close second.) Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: The Halloween Edition”

Saturday Sartorial Showdown: The Gala Also-Rans

Are you bleary-eyed after last night’s Game 3? Me, too, and I didn’t even stay up for the whole thing. That’s okay. We’ll just ease into our day with a cup of coffee and a frivolous fashion face-off.

Last week, I nominated the best-dressed women from the WTA Gala and Draw Ceremony. I got some pushback both in the comments and in person: Where are the short, clingy dresses? Why are you nominating someone wearing a beach towel? Stop being such an old biddy!

Hmm. Maybe I have become too prim. I still don’t think these are the best of the bunch, but in the interest of salvaging my fashion cred, here’s the slate of slinky nominees: Continue reading “Saturday Sartorial Showdown: The Gala Also-Rans”

Saturday Sartorial Showdown–The WTA Gala

I know you were all wondering what happened to this week’s Friday Fashion Face-off. Well, we have something special for you today–the Saturday Sartorial Showdown!

Moving our fashion fun back one day had nothing whatsoever to do with my post-hiatus fatigue and disorganization. It was all part of my master plan. A new day for a new feature–the evening wear competition! Continue reading “Saturday Sartorial Showdown–The WTA Gala”

Friday Fashion Face-off: Flavors of Fed

We’re well into autumn, what I think of as the long dry season in professional tennis. Once the U.S. Open ends, I find it hard to muster much enthusiasm for the year’s remaining tournaments, at least until the tour finals. I’ve been looking at these players all year. I’m tired of them. They look a little tired as well.

To make matters worse, clothing manufacturers don’t introduce new lines in the post-major dregs of the season. It’s enough to make a tennis blogger question why she started a weekly fashion face-off in the first place. What in the world was I thinking?! Continue reading “Friday Fashion Face-off: Flavors of Fed”
