What a strange French Open it has been on the women’s side. Would you have picked any of the semifinalists (Sakkari, Pavlyuchenkova, Krejcikova and Zidansek) for your fantasy league team? Well, you might have picked Sakkari, but I didn’t. Fortunately for me, hardly anyone else did, either. I remain in a respectable eleventh place.
Will today’s slate of best-dressed nominees be as surprising as the semifinalists? Let’s find out…
Nominee #1: Naomi Osaka
After landing on our worst-dressed list at the Australian Open, Osaka and Nike redeem themselves with this regal tennis dress.
Here’s a look at the elegant, strappy back:
The introverted Osaka withdrew from the tournament after the first round, citing mental health concerns. A win in this poll probably won’t solve her problems, but hey, it couldn’t hurt.
Nominee #2: Danielle Collins
For the record, I’m past the age of wearing rompers. Or, should I say, my bladder is past it. Even now my anxiety level is rising as I imagine hopping around in a cramped restroom stall, frantically trying to extricate myself from a romper.
The 50th-ranked American won’t hit her Kegel years for quite some time, and she looks sporty and youthful in this New Balance getup. The white half-zip is a sharp detail and provides that all-important quick access when nature calls.
Nominee #3: Coco Gauff
I love everything about this New Balance dress: the subdued yellow pattern, the skirt’s flow (especially lovely when she’s in motion), the spaghetti straps. Most of all, I’m taken with the neon yellow crisscrossing her back.
I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of this stylish teen in the best-dressed face-offs in the years to come.
What do you think of our nominees? Did I miss someone? Should a romper compete in a separate category from a dress? And should there be a fantasy league for tennis fashion???
